General information

1When will the World Police & Fire Games take place?
The coronavirus has the whole world in its grip, and that includes the World Police & Fire Games. Because of the unpredictability created by the pandemic, the federation of the World Police & Fire Games, in consultation with the organization of the WPFG Rotterdam, has decided not to organize the Games in 2021 and to investigate further how we can make the event possible in 2022.
2When does the organization expect to publish a new date?
The organization of the WPFG Rotterdam will continue to work tirelessly to identify all the consequences, so that we can enjoy an unforgettable edition in 2022. First of all, a determined effort is being made, together with all the parties involved, to establish a new date. We will keep you informed of developments. Stay up to date via our newsletter and social media.

4When am I eligible to be a competitor?
In order to be eligible to compete in the WPFG, you must be at least 18 years old and be publicly employed as a law enforcement officer, firefighter, customs and corrections officer and must have had formal training. Your primary occupation must be as a law enforcement officer, firefighter, customs and corrections service or defined retired officer for one of those employments.

An exception is made for participants from the hosting country the Netherlands: official fire fighter volunteers may also participate.
5What is the minimum age?
Age is determined as of the first day of the Games. You need to be 18 years old on the first day of the event.

Sports

1Which sports will be included?
Please visit the Sports page.
2My sport is not included. What do I do?
At this moment we are already organizing a large number of sports: 63 in total. Very often we receive requests to add sports. Unfortunately, we are not including any new sports at this time. We will add your request to our list and if we want to change the sports represented, we will definitely consider it. Of course, we hope you are enthusiastic about one of our other sports as well, so you can participate in Rotterdam.
3Which disciplines are covered by my sport?
Keep an eye on the WPFG website and subscribe to our newsletter to be informed of any news about this subject.
4Is a professional / Olympic level required?
No, not at all. Participating is more important than winning. However, please feel free to take the initiative to put together a Dutch indoor football team, for example, with the best players from different regions. Where there is ambition, take up the challenge. But top level is not required.
5Will you be grouped according to level for each sport?
No, there are no limitations based on level.
6What age categories are there?
Categories are:
18 – 29 years
30 – 39 years
40 – 49 years
50 years and over

Many Individual (singles) events offer 5-year age increments. Track and Field has 5-year age categories up to 75+. Swimming has 5-year age categories up to 85+.
7There are too few participants for my sport. Now what?
If only one person/team enters any event, that person/team will be assigned to the next most reasonable category of the sport.
8When and where does my sporting event take place?
Keep an eye on the WPFG website and subscribe to the newsletter to be informed of any news about this subject.

Firearms and ammunition

1Can I bring my firearm?
License applications for the transfer or export of firearms for the purpose of personal use by competitors should meet the following conditions:

  • The competitor concerned must be able to prove that he or she is licensed in the country of origin to have the firearms and ammunition in question in their possession, and that they are licensed to temporarily export these to the Netherlands;
  • At the time of the application for the export license, there is no international (UN, EU or OSCE) arms embargo in the country of origin. This means that competitors originating from countries that are included in an arms embargo in 2021 are not permitted to temporarily import firearms and ammunition into the Netherlands.

Teams

1What are the rules for entering as a team?
Each individual team member must submit an online sports entry form. Each player on the team indicates the full first and last name of the team captain on the form.
2Can I join an existing team?
Competitors from police and fire services, customs and corrections services may combine to form doubles and/or teams, regardless of agency size or service within a country.

Accommodation & Transport

1Where can I find information about hotels?
The organization is currently working on price agreements with hotels so that participants can stay here at favorable rates. There are also plenty of campsites and bungalow parks in the Netherlands. Keep an eye on the WPFG website and subscribe to the newsletter to be informed of any news about this subject.
2How can I travel between the hotel and the venue?
The organization is currently talking with the local public-transportation provider to investigate the possibilities for a discount for participants. Rotterdam and the Netherlands are very compact, so public transportation can take you everywhere; in many cases, you can even cycle or walk. The situation is similar to the Games in Belfast in 2013.
